Morrison and Johnson Named Morgan County Players of the Year

Morgan County Today is pleased to announce that Coalfield junior Alexis Morrison and Wartburg Central senior Tanner Johnson have been selected as our 2021-22 high school basketball players of the year for Morgan County.

Alexis Morrison proved to be a real difference maker for the Lady Jackets, dominating at the post position throughout the season. Due in large part to Alexis’ strong post play, the Lady Jackets finished the regular season with a 21-5 overall record, a 6-2 District 3-A record, and finished as top seed for the district tournament. Alexis’ performance throughout the season is highlighted by the following:

  • Averaged 14.3 points per game and 59.8 % field goal accuracy for 23 games
  • Averaged 8.7 rebounds and 2 steals per game
  • Achieved 100% field goal accuracy in three games in which she successfully made 22 of 22 field goal attempts
  • Achieved 75% or greater field goal accuracy in seven games, completing 56 of 65 field goal attempts
  • Scored 15 points or more in 11 games

Tanner Johnson has demonstrated exceptional basketball skills throughout the season, characterized by his shooting ability from any range and by his ability to penetrate defenses and drive to the basket. Tanner’s accomplishments this season include:

  • Scored 575 total points
  • Averaged 25 points per game
  • Scored 30 points or more in eight games
  • Averaged 3.6 rebounds per game
  • Averaged 2.9 steals per game
  • Averaged 3.7 assists per game
