Lady Eagles Fall to Harriman

The Oakdale Lady Eagles volleyball team came up short in their battle with Harriman this evening, falling 3 games to 1 to the Lady Devils. At times, the Lady Eagles looked really sharp making some impressive runs at the Lady Devils, but errors seemed to come at the worst possible times, halting each advance except in Game 2.

In Game 1, the Lady Eagles fell behind from the start and never recovered, losing 25-6. The Lady Eagles did not consistently attack the net, settling instead for volleys that did not put pressure on Harriman. Oakdale’s 9 setup errors, compared to Harriman’s 2, were major factors in the defeat. Also, Harriman scored 5 service aces, while Oakdale had none.

Just as in the match against Coalfield last week, the Lady Eagles came roaring back in Game 2, scoring 8 service aces to Harriman’s 1. Amelia Clark and Lauren Hoskins each scored 3 service aces for Oakdale. The Lady Eagles were down 5-10 before slowly coming back to tie the Lady Devils at 14-14. After three ties, Oakdale took the lead at 17-16 and never looked back, defeating Harriman 25-17.

In Game 3 , the Lady Eagles stayed close to the Lady Devils and tied the score at 17-17 before Harriman scored two consecutive service aces and pulled away for a 25-18 victory. The Lady Eagles scored only 1 service ace, while committing three service errors. Harriman attacked the net consistently and scored 4 service aces in the game.

The Lady Eagles started slow in Game 4, falling behind 4-12 before making a run, then fell behind by 11 as the Lady Devils pulled away to win by 25-16. Oakdale committed 5 service errors in the game, as well as 8 setup errors. Harriman attacked the net 8 times, to only 3 for Oakdale.

The match was competitive, but just outside the grasp of the Lady Eagles, who committed an average of more than 9 setup errors per game compared to Harriman’s 6. Harriman averaged 5 attacks per game, compared to Oakdale’s 2. Neither team blocked the ball at the net throughout the match.
