Harriman Falls to CSAS in Region 2A Volleyball Championship

By Terry Futrell

The Harriman Lady Devils gave Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences (CSAS) a run for their money, but fell short in a match that was much closer than shown by the final 3-0 score.  Since losing their season opener to Marion County on August 16, CSAS has lost only one set throughout the entire season.

CSAS is clearly a better team than Harriman has faced all season. Their net play was superior and their attacks far more vicious than any we have seen this year. It took the Lady Devils much of the first set to adjust to CSAS’ level of play. Harriman lost the first set 25-11.

The Lady Devils turned it on in the second set and gave CSAS all they could handle, but eventually lost the extended set 28-26.

Harriman jumped out to an amazing 14-1 lead over CSAS in the third set before CSAS began their comeback, eventually tying the score at 20-20. The teams swapped leads a couple of times before CSAS pulled ahead by three points to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-0. CSAS goes home with the Region 2A championship trophy, and the Lady Devils settle for the runner-up trophy.

Post-season play continues for both teams as the Lady Devils play the winner of the North Greene vs South Greene match on Thursday and CSAS plays the loser.
