Oakdale vs Wartburg: Vera and Cruz Named Players of the Game
Oakdale’s Eloy Vera and Wartburg’s Perrion Cruz have been named MorganCountySports.com’s players of the game for their performance on the field Friday night.
Based on the amount of time he spent in the Wartburg offensive backfield and the amount of time he spent running through the Wartburg defensive secondary, Vera should have paid rent to the Bulldogs. With multiple sacks and tackles for loss, Vera was a stalwart on defense. Offensively, his total yards gained running the ball likely exceeded Wartburg’s total offensive output. Smaller than many players, Eloy proved that he is a giant on the field.
Enough can’t be said about the intensity and aggressiveness with which Wartburg’s Perrion Cruz plays the game of football. Injured multiple times during the game, Cruz came back like the proverbial cat, often chasing down ball carriers on the opposite side of the field from where he was lined up. Cruz also anchored the center of the Wartburg offensive line. He’s tough and continuously gives his all on the field.
