Oneida vs Loretto State Tournament Scouting Report – March 4, 2019

State tournament appearances are nothing new for  Loretto and Oneida. Loretto made their last appearance in 2014 when they were defeated 48-43 by Jackson County in the semifinals. Loretto also made state tournament appearances in 2011 and 2012. Oneida last appeared in the state tournament in 2005 when many of the junior-dominated team members were just exiting the toddler stage. Prior to that, Oneida had 15 appearances since 1980 and won the state championship in 1994.

Loretto Lady Mustangs

Loretto School is a 9-12 school located in Loretto, Lawrence County, TN. Enrollment is approximately 500 students.

The Lady Mustangs earned a spot in the Class A state tournament as Class A Miss Basketball finalist Karly Weathers scored 16 of her team-high 24 points in the first half and Loretto coasted to a 76-41 win over Jo Byrnes in the Class A sectional Saturday night.

Weathers (#22) led the way for Loretto with 24 points, Morgan Welch (#5) added 11 points, Victoria Chadwell (#10) nine points, and Mimi McBee (#11) eight points.

Weathers is a 5-10 freshman point guard, Welch is a 5-06 junior guard, Chadwell is a 5-10 junior guard, and McBee is a 5-09 junior forward. Loretto has only one senior on their roster.

Oneida Lady Indians

Oneida High School is a 9-12 school located in the city of Oneida in Scott County, TN. Enrollment is approximately 400 students.

The Lady Indians qualified for the Class A state tournament with a 57-52 upset win over Region 1 Champion Cosby in the Class A sectional Saturday night.

Kendyl West appeared to be fully recovered from her recent surgery as she led the Lady Indians in scoring with a game-high 21 points. Katelyn Stiltner added nine points and Gracie Martin seven points.

West (#24) is a junior forward, Stiltner (#32) a sophomore center, and Martin (#23) a sophomore forward. Oneida has only two seniors on their roster.
