Scott Girls Rain Threes to Overwhelm Oakdale 48-30
Fans in the Scott County gym needed umbrellas for protection from the rain Thursday evening. The Class 2A Lady Highlanders rained 3-point baskets throughout the game to soundly defeat the Oakdale Lady Eagles 48-30.
Scott jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the first quarter, led 24-14 at the half, and cruised to victory over the visiting Lady Eagles. The Lady Highlanders scored eleven 3-point baskets, outpacing their 2-point shooting 11-7. Oakdale connected on eleven 2-point baskets, but could not connect from 3-point range.
Victoria Jones led Oakdale in scoring with 14 points, with six of those coming from the charity stripe. Scott was led by Callie Carson with 14 points – 12 of Carson’s points resulted from four 3-point baskets.
Because this was a non-district game, the Lady Eagles remain in sixth place in District 3-1A with a 4-8 district record.
Scott County Cruises to Victory Over Oakdale 78-53
The Class 2A Scott Highlanders cruised to a 78-53 victory over visiting Oakdale Thursday evening. The Highlanders took a 21-15 first-quarter lead and led the remainder of the game. Scott built their lead to 38-24 at the half, 60-41 after three quarters, and never let up leading to the 78-53 final score.
The two teams combined for eighteen 3-point baskets in the contest. Scott sank twenty-two 2-point baskets – twice as many as Oakdale. Oakdale was led by Rhett Nelson who had a red-hot night, racking up 29 points for the Eagles. Nelson sank six 3-point baskets. Dawson Smith added 15 points for Oakdale. Scott had three players in double figures. Trey Morrow led the Highlanders with 16 points, Cash Tucker added 15 points, and Logan Goodman contributed 14 points.
The defeat by Scott was a non-district game and leaves the Eagles in third place in District 3-1A with a 9-3 district record.
