Sweet Revenge! Lady Tigers Overpower Midway

The Sunbright Lady Tigers overpowered the Midway Lady Greenwave Friday evening in a grudge match, winning 63-53. It was Midway, including many of these same players, that upset the District 3-A leading Lady Tigers in the District 3-A Tournament on February 16.

These Lady Tigers had a lot to prove, and prove they did! Down 42-41 at the end of the 3^rd quarter, the Lady Tigers roared back, outscoring Midway 22-11 in the 4^th quarter to win 63-53. Thirteen of Sunbright’s 22 4^th quarter points came on free throws.

Makenna Brown led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 23 points, 11 of which came in the 4^th quarter. Taylor Cox had a productive evening with 18 points and Olivia Northrup contributed 14 points. Only six of the Sunbright points came from 3-point shots.

Fouls were a major factor in the Sunbright victory. Midway committed 25 personal fouls, compared to Sunbright’s 17. Two of Midway’s players fouled out, while no Lady Tigers reached the 5-foul limit. In the critical 4^th quarter, Midway only had five free throw attempts, while the Lady Tigers had 16 free throw attempts.

The win places the Lady Tigers in contention with Wartburg and Oneida for District 3-A leadership. The Lady Tigers face Harriman at home on December 4. The Lady Blue Devils were defeated by Midway 54-11 on November 27.
