Lady Bulldog Volleyballers Fall to Harriman in Three Sets

The Wartburg Lady Bulldogs faced a huge challenge as they met the undefeated Harriman Lady Devils in volleyball Tuesday evening. Though fighting with intensity throughout the match, the Lady Bulldogs fell to the Lady Devils, ranked No. 2 in the state in Class A by MaxPreps, in three sets (25-7, 25-9, 25-11).
Leading 2-1 in the first set, Harriman’s Lily Taylor stepped up and served 13 consecutive points, including three aces, to increase the Lady Devils’ lead to 15-1. Wartburg could not hold serve for more than two points at a time, and the Lady Devils pulled away to win the set 25-7.
Wartburg battled to a 4-4 tie score in the second set and trailed only 5-4 when Harriman’s Abbie Bullard took the serve. Bullard served nine consecutive points, including five aces, to give the Lady Devils a 14-4 lead. From that point, Harriman pulled away to close out the set 25-9.
Harriman took a 9-3 lead in the third set before Wartburg fought back and closed the gap to 10-7. With Harriman leading 11-7, Lady Devil Brittany Merrill served nine points, including five consecutive aces, to give Harriman a 20-7 lead. Harriman closed out the set 25-11 and won the match 3-0.
Wartburg plays at Monterey Thursday evening and Harriman travels to Coalfield to face the Lady Jackets. Harriman defeated Coalfield 3-0 in their previous matchup on August 17.
