Kees Leads Coalfield to Volleyball Victory Over Clarkrange 3-1

Lady Jacket Carlee Kees served 13 consecutive points to lead the Coalfield Lady Jackets to a 3-1 victory over Clarkrange in their volleyball match at Coalfield Monday evening. Coming on the heels of an embarrassing loss to undefeated Van Buren County last Thursday, the victory over Clarkrange serves notice that the Lady Jackets plan to compete for the District 3A crown.

The Lady Jackets led 11-9 in the first set when Kees served four consecutive points, including two aces, to extend the Lady Jacket lead to six points, 15-9. Clarkrange closed the gap to four points before Mallory Hill served three points for a 19-11 Coalfield lead. The Lady Jackets held on to win the first set 25-17.

Coalfield trailed 10-5 in the second set when Jayleigh Bunch served five in a row for the Lady Jackets to tie the score 10-10. Coalfield took a two-point lead at 16-14 before Clarkrange edged ahead for a 25-22 victory in the set.

The Lady Jackets took a 6-1 lead in the third set when Mallory Hill served four consecutive points. Trinity Basler extended the Coalfield lead to 12-3 by holding serve for four points. Coalfield clinched the victory with Alexis Morrison serving four points down the stretch, including one ace, to give the Lady Jackets a 24-15 lead. Clarkrange lost a rally point to give Coalfield a 25-18 victory in the set and a 2-1 lead in the match.

Coalfield led 6-4 in the fourth set when Clarkrange racked up nine consecutive points to take a 14-6 lead. Clarkrange extended its lead to a seemingly insurmountable 21-12 when Carlee Kees stepped up to serve thirteen consecutive points to give the Lady Jackets a 25-21 set win and a 3-1 match victory.

Coalfield travels to Pikeville for a tough match with Bledsoe County on Tuesday, September 1.
