After heartbreaking losses earlier in the week to Kingston and Coalfield, the Wartburg Central Lady Bulldogs rebounded behind strong serving and good defensive play to defeat the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-15) Thursday evening.

Oliver Springs drew first blood, taking a 2-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs wasted no time taking the lead at 3-2 behind the serving of Madilyn Armes. The Lady Bobcats tied the set at 3-3, but then Wartburg took control of the game. Alivia Laymance served seven consecutive points, including five aces, as the Lady Bulldogs took a commanding 10-3 lead. The Lady Bobcats closed the gap to 16-14 before Hannah Moore served six points, including two aces, to give Wartburg a 22-14 lead. Oliver Springs could only answer with two points, and Armes closed out the set by serving three points to give the Lady Bulldogs a 25-16 set victory.

Oliver Springs rebounded in the second set and took a 9-8 lead when Armes stepped up to serve six consecutive points for the Lady Bulldogs, giving them a 14-9 lead. Wartburg held on for a 25-21 set victory as Morgan Beard and Savannah Tinch each served three points down the stretch.

Oliver Springs continued to battle in the third set and took a 15-13 lead over the Lady Bulldogs. At that point, Lady Bulldog Alivia Laymance stepped up to serve an astounding 12 points in a row, including two aces, to give Wartburg a 25-15 set win and a 3-0 match victory.

While the Lady Bulldogs performance was highlighted by the serving of Armes and Laymance, the defensive and offensive play of Tinch, Beard, Emory Hamby, and Moore were also instrumental in the Lady Bulldog victory.
