Oakdale vs Coalfield Game Preview
By Greg Addington
Coach Keith Henry’s Yellow Jackets begin a three-game road trip away from the friendly confines of Rochelle Field when they take the short drive to Oakdale to face the Eagles. Coalfield wants to continue the momentum in the region after picking up wins at Harriman and at home last week against Sunbright while the Eagles are hungry for their first win of 2019.
The Eagles fell to Wartburg at home last week 47-0 on Hollis Eble Field. Oakdale sophomore quarterback Eloy Vera was 6-of-15 passing for 114 yards and Austin Stafford led the way receiving with three receptions for 87 yards. The Eagles are only playing their second region game of the year while the Jackets are playing their third. Oakdale has so far faced Pickett County, Jellico, their lone region game against Midway, and last week against Wartburg on their 2019 schedule.
In last week’s Homecoming game, Coalfield had a solid effort against county rival Sunbright. Peyton McKinney hit Dawson Nitzschke with a 46-yard scoring strike on the game’s first possession and also ran for three scores. Seth Lowe ran for a first quarter touchdown from 3-yards out and took an interception back for a touchdown from 23-yards out. As a team, Coalfield ran for 229 yards and threw for 139 while holding the Tigers to 95 yards rushing and 43 yards through the air. Daniel Schaar again led the charge defensively with 10 tackles and forced a fumble.
Coalfield plays Oakdale on Hollis Eble Field Friday night with kickoff scheduled for 7:30pm.
