Shattered Dreams – Moore and Hamby Face New Challenges

Just a few weeks ago, Wartburg football players Josh Moore and Jake Hamby smiled broadly as they signed letters of commitment to play football for Lindenwood University at its Belleville, Missouri campus. Lindenwood is a private, liberal arts institution and its Belleville Campus serves approximately 2,300 students. The opportunity to continue playing together was a dream come true for Josh and Jake. But, dreams are sometimes shattered by circumstances over which one has no control.

Belleville University announced today that it will be closing undergraduate programs at Linville after the 2019-2020 year and consolidating undergraduate programs at its St. Charles Campus. Several athletic programs will cease immediately, and others, including football, will operate for only one more year. Josh and Jake were notified by email yesterday of the University’s actions.

Jake told MorganCountySports.com that it simply wasn’t God’s plan for him to go to Lindenwood. He has already completed many requirements for an associate’s degree from Roane State while a student at Wartburg and plans to complete that work. He may also seek an internship. Josh is reported to be exploring other opportunities to continue playing football.

Looking on the brighter side, it is great that this decision was made before Josh and Jake enrolled at Lindenwood, else the disruption to their lives would have been much greater.

The dreams of Josh Moore and Jake Hamby to play college football were shattered by the decision of Lindenwood University-Belleville to cease undergraduate operations.
