Amazing Catch by Wartburg’s Alexis Harrison

By Terry Futrell

When Harriman’s Micaela Goins steps up to the plate, outfielders automatically position themselves deep, realizing that any ball hit by Micaela may go over the fence. So it was in the bottom of the first inning this evening when Goins came to bat against Wartburg. With a runner on first, Goins watched the first two pitches go by out of the strike zone. Goins then fouled off the next four pitches. Finally, Micaela got hold of a pitch and drove it long and hard towards the center field fence. As expected, the ball was going, going, goi… Oops, enter Wartburg centerfielder Alexis Harrison.  Alexis leaped high, partially over the fence, and plucked Goins’ would-be homer out of thin air. The sequence of photos below show the amazing catch made by Harrison. As can be seen in the photos, Alexis actually came down on top of the fence, but held firmly to the ball. Congratulations to Alexis for one of the most amazing plays we have seen all season.

Congratulations also to Micaela Goins for hitting the ball even deeper beyond the fence in the bottom of the sixth with two runners on base for a 3-run homer. Goins accounted for five of Harriman’s eight runs in their 8-1 victory over Wartburg.
