Yellow Jackets Power Past Calvary Baptist Boys 70-54
The Coalfield Yellow Jackets boys basketball team traveled to Kingston and defeated Calvary Baptist for the second time this season 70-54. The Jackets jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first quarter. Coalfield outscored Calvary 20-12 in the second quarter to expand their lead at halftime to 34-19. Calvary came back strong in the second half, scoring within one point of the Jackets 35-36. Coalfield’s first half lead held to make the final score 70-54.
Coalfield was led by Nathan Harvey and Kyle Seiber who had 18 points each. Brent Carroll buried three 3-point baskets for the Yellow Jackets and contributed nine points. In the second quarter when the Jackets had their greatest scoring advantage, Seiber poured in seven points, while Harvey and Carroll each scored six points. Eight players scored for the Jackets. Calvary had three players in double figures. Landon Treadway and TJ Vestal scored 13 points each, and Hayden Rusinek was close behind with 11 points.
The win brings Coalfield’s overall season record to 3-13 and 1-9 in District 3-1A.
