Lady Tigers Lose Heartbreaker to Oneida 55-52

The Sunbright High School Lady Tigers came close to knocking the Oneida Lady Indians from their number one perch in District 3-1A. After a slow start in which Sunbright fell behind 16-9 in the first quarter, the Lady Tigers equaled or outscored Oneida in each of the last three quarters. The Lady Tiger advance fell short as Oneida held on to win 55-52.

In the second quarter of the game, Sunbright’s Makenna Brown reached a major milestone, scoring her 1,000th point in the second quarter on a jump shot from the top of the lane. But, it was a bittersweet game for the Lady Tigers as the loss drops Sunbright to third place behind Wartburg.

Makenna Brown led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 17 points. Hannah Shannon added 12 points, hitting four 3-pointers for Sunbright. Oneida was led by Kendyl West with 14 points. Chloe Terry contributed 12 points and Katelyn Stiltner added 10 points for the Lady Indians. Each team scored 20 baskets from the field, but Oneida had the edge in 3-point shooting 9-7.

With the victory, Oneida remains perfect in district play with an 8-0 record. Sunbright falls to 6-2 along with Wartburg. Although both Sunbright and Wartburg have 6-2 records, Wartburg takes second place in the district by virtue of having previously defeated Sunbright.

Sunbright Tigers Fall to Oneida 68-58

The Indians then charged ahead, outscoring the Tigers 25-14 in the final period to win 68-58.
