Coalfield Drops Out of Top Ten
By Terry Futrell – October 15, 2018
The Coalfield Yellow Jackets dropped out of the top ten in the Associated Press Tennessee Class 1A high school football poll released today. Midway moved up to No. 8 after defeating Sunbright 46-6. Oliver Springs entered the poll at No. 10 after getting a win over Oakdale by forfeit this past Friday. Coalfield and Oliver Springs meet this coming Friday. If Coalfield wins, they will clinch second place in Region 2. A win by the Bobcats will likely result in the Oliver Springs vs Midway winner on October 26 being positioned for a second place finish and home field advantage in the opening round of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Region 2 rival Greenback continues to be ranked No. 1, receiving 16 of 18 first place votes in the weekly poll.
In Class 2A, the Oneida Indians dropped one spot to No. 9 in the poll after losing to top-ranked Meigs County 35-0.
