Lady Bulldogs Shut Out Oakdale
By Terry Futrell – August 28, 2018
The Wartburg Lady Bulldogs continued to take down other Morgan County volleyball teams as they shut out the Oakdale Lady Eagles this evening winning three straight games in convincing fashion. The Lady Eagles put up a fight in the first two games but were overwhelmed by the Lady Bulldogs in the third.
In Game 1, the Lady Eagles fell behind from the start and never recovered, losing 17-25. The Lady Eagles committed 18 unforced errors, including five service errors, and were fortunate to stay competitive with Wartburg. Wartburg scored 5 service aces, while Oakdale had three.
The Lady Eagles began Game 2 much stronger, attacking better and staying with the Lady Bulldogs until the game was tied at 6-6. Wartburg slowly pulled away and led by 12 at 22-10. After falling behind 12-24, the Lady Eagles scored five straight before the Lady Bulldogs scored their final point, winning 25-17.
In Game 3, Wartburg scored the first eight points before a service error put the Lady Eagles on the scoreboard. This run was highlighted by seven points scored while Wartburg freshman Hannah Moore was serving. The Lady Eagles were handicapped by committing 21 unforced errors in the game and never mounted a serious challenge to the Lady Bulldogs. Wartburg won the game 25-9, closing out the match 3-0.
The match was competitive for the first two games in which the two teams engaged in several extended volleys. Wartburg has now taken down both Coalfield and Oakdale in the first of their home-and-home County matchups. Sunbright does not participate in volleyball.
