The Eagles had a disappointing opening game last Friday when they fell to the Pickett County Bobcats 22-0. The sky was overcast, contrary to the stormy weather report. The Eagles Defense, the highlight of the game, held strong against the Bobcat’s rushing attack during the first quarter of play. The Oakdale defense mustered several stops. The Oakdale offense, while showing flashes of success, was unable to capitalize on its opportunities. The Bobcats found a rushing touchdown after a long drive in the second quarter and scored again before the half off of a wild tipped pass that fell into the arms of the Pickett receiver.
The second half did not look much better for the Eagles. The Bobcats scored another touchdown early in the third quarter. The defense again rallied and held off the Bobcat offense for the rest of the game. There were flashes of progress on the Oakdale offense, but the stress of playing both sides of the ball got to the Eagles and they were unable to score. The final score was 22-0. The Eagles play Jellico at home next Friday night.
