Bulldogs on a Mission

If heightened emotions guaranteed a win, then the Coalfield Yellow Jackets would be in trouble when they face the Wartburg Central High Bulldogs this Friday night. Bulldog fever reached its peak as the Wartburg community kicked off the 2018 season tonight with a Block Party in the street in front of the Morgan County Courthouse. With about 300 people in attendance, the Bulldogs were treated to music, cheers, precision dance routines, and food. Each Bulldog was introduced as Aaron Harvey stirred up the crowd and declared that it was time for the “throne” to return [from Coalfield] to Wartburg.
But, emotion alone doesn’t win ball games. Although they lost several key players, the Yellow Jackets will bring a strong experience base to Wartburg. The Bulldogs will have to counter by leaving it all on the field, playing their best, most error-free game possible. Clearly, the Bulldogs are not the same team that was embarrassed by Coalfield in the 2017 season opener. The Bulldogs improved throughout the 2017 season and the 2018 Bulldogs aim to continue their march to competitiveness.
According to Wartburg Coach Kevin Human, this game will serve as a “measuring stick” for the Bulldogs – they will find out Friday night just how good they are. As for the Yellow Jackets, a dominating victory would signal the beginning of a march to challenge defending state champion Greenback for the Region title. Conversely, a loss for the Jackets would cast dark clouds over the 2018 season.
Regardless of the outcome, this promises to be one of the most exciting games of the entire season. Fans will not want to miss this one. Come early if you want a seat!
